The Action Research project was undertaken with the aim to induce academic achievement behaviour in the group of Primary Five students in five participating schools. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the achievement motivation programme was effective in improving the attitudes, locus of control, time management, self-esteem and study skills of the experimental group students.

How we work works to advance the science and evidence-based practice of character education and social and emotional learning (SEL). We collate useful articles, videos and many other learning materials that synthesize scientific advances in Character Education / SEL and explain their implications for practice. Our priorities focus on the benefits of preschool through Primary and Secondary school SEL programming; how Character Education / SEL coordinates with other educational movements; research and training in implementation; assessment; school leadership development; educational policies; and communications.

What We Teach

We teach students important transformational attitudinal developent skills-sets that equips students with the skills, knowledge and dispositions that enable studnets to manage self and make responsible decisions. With the right attitudinal skills-sets and a hungry mind for more learning, students can acquire more essential study skills that eventually helped to perform well in schools.

Please support our Character Education movement. SEL should become an integrated piece of the prekindergarten through Primary and Secondary education experience, considered as essential to education as reading, writing, and arithmetic. What our children learn from character education will be useful to them as they engage and interact with other people in society. For them to become upstanding members of their communities, they need to know the proper way to treat other people, and these are the things that they learn and understand through character education.

I believe that character is not something that just happens by itself, any more than a chisel can create a work of art without the hand of an artist guiding it. Character is the result of hundreds and hundreds of choices you make that gradually turn who you are, at any given moment, into who you want to be.

Jim Rohn

Quality character education helps schools create a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment for every student and supports academic development. It fosters qualities that will help students be successful as citizens, in the workplace, and with the academic curriculum. It lays the foundation to help students be successful in all of the goals we have for our public schools. It is the common denominator that will help schools reach all of their goals! CHARACTER EDUCATION IS NOT ONE MORE THING ON YOUR PLATE! IT IS THE PLATE!!!”

The most important scientific discovery about self-control is that it can be taught.

The Dunedinstudy
The priority in the years ahead will be to teach students about values and character so as to better prepare them for the 21st century,

'We need personal values to enable each of us to have the confidence, self-awareness, grit and determination to succeed. We need moral values, such as respect, responsibility, care and appreciation towards others to guide each of us to be a socially responsible person.

Education Minister in 2011
